EXPLORE PROGRAMS

Virginia Tech offers K-12 STEM programs that give students time to investigate ideas, build technical skills and apply what they learn through hands-on projects, camps, competitions and sustained learning experiences.

Programs span elementary through high school and include invention, artificial intelligence, robotics, drones, data, engineering, physical computing and other emerging technologies.

STEM Summer PROGRAMS

Summer STEM Programs for Elementary Students

Explore hands-on summer programs designed for younger learners, including engineering, data, technology and project-based STEM experiences.

Includes: Data Detectives: Explore Tech in Action; Engineer a Robot Limb!

Science of Flight Summer Program

Elementary students explore aviation, engineering and the science of flight through hands-on drone activities and drone soccer.

Grades: 2-5

Summer STEM Programs for Middle School Students

Middle school learners go deeper into emerging technologies through project-based experiences in artificial intelligence, robotics, sensors, data and engineering.

Includes: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics; Explore the Future Through Data & Sensor Technology

Flight Lab: Drone Dynamics in Action

Students investigate the forces of flight through drone piloting, coding and hands-on aviation challenges while building skills in robotics, engineering and uncrewed aircraft systems.

Grades: 6-8

Summer STEM Programs for High School Students

High school students explore advanced STEM topics through immersive summer programs connecting data, sensors, engineering, drones and emerging technologies with college and career pathways.

Includes: Engineering the Future with Data & Sensor Technology; Flight Lab: Drone Dynamics in Action — High School

TechTrek: AI, Chip, & IoT Innovation High School Camp

Developed with Virginia Tech’s BRICCS labs, TechTrek introduces high school students to AI-driven physical computing, semiconductor design, machine learning and related emerging technologies.

Grades: 9-12

U.S. Drone Soccer Championship 2026

Competitions & Year-Round Programs

Tech for Good: Physical Computing, AI & Career Exploration

Explore partner-supported experiences that use physical computing, artificial intelligence, sensors, robotics and invention to solve meaningful problems and connect students with future careers.

Grades: 4-12

STEM Reading & Literacy Resources

Virginia Tech can work with schools and education partners to connect STEM concepts, vocabulary, inquiry and career awareness with elementary and middle school literacy learning.

Makerspace, Physical Computing & AI Experiences

Virginia Tech works with schools and partner organizations to create customizable makerspace experiences that connect STEM concepts with designing, building and testing.

Grades: 9-12

U.S. Drone Soccer

U.S. Drone Soccer combines esports-style competition with aviation, engineering and hands-on technology as students build, test and pilot drones while learning the STEM principles behind flight.

Grades: 6-12

Invention Virginia & Invention DC

Students identify real-world problems, develop ideas, build prototypes and communicate their solutions through Virginia Tech’s invention education programs and regional competition pathways.
